Hello, my name is Timmy! I was born in Edmonton but grew up in a small town outside of the city called Onoway. During my early years in university, I was involved in a street racing incident that led to an altercation where I was assaulted. Lacking in confidence, self-defense skills, and awareness, I began gravitating towards martial arts and that is where my jiu jitsu journey begins. I met one of my best friends(Ian) in school, and he had convinced me to try out the jiu jitsu program at the UofA. I never looked back! I have over 15 years of BJJ experience and received my black belt in 2023. I enjoy competing in local and international IBJJF competitions and look to continue to evolve and improve my game. I currently train at Black Sails BJJ, but I also recently opened a beginner friendly jiu jitsu gym in my basement called Dark Horse Jiu Jitsu. My goal is to build a strong jiu jitsu program for kids, teens, and adults. I want to create a safe, fun, and competitive environment for those interested in learning BJJ for their first time with the space that I have. I am excited for this challenge and I hope jiu jitsu delivers on your goals just as it has for me.
